This presentation will provide an overview of George Mason University’s shared approach to equity leadership to further a commitment towards campus access, equity, and inclusion. Utilizing best practices in DEI and strategy, the presenters will discuss Mason’s efforts to incorporate external assessments of its current landscape to inform collective direction toward structural and campus equity.

About the Speakers
Melany Barrett is a Manager in the Management Consulting practice of Attain Partners. With nearly a decade of experience in Higher Education, she has demonstrated knowledge in business process improvement, project management, research administration, and faculty affairs administration. Prior to Attain Partners, Ms. Barrett supported Higher Education administration and strategic initiatives as a member of an internal consulting team. She is a Prosci® Certified Change Management Practitioner with knowledge and training in the field and holds an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
Reshma Patel-Jackson is a Managing Director and Practice Lead for the Management Consulting business of Attain Partners. She is responsible for and involved in a wide range of consulting initiatives, primarily on change management, strategic planning, business process improvement, organizational assessments, project management, and research administration. Mrs. Patel-Jackson is a Prosci® Certified Change Management Practitioner who has extensive knowledge and training in the field. She has provided strategic planning, project management, change management, internal audit, compliance, and costing services for a variety of nonprofit, higher education, government contracting, and commercial clients.
Dr. Sharnnia Artis is the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer at George Mason University. Dr. Artis is a seasoned practitioner who has led the creation of programs that improve diversity and inclusion in the engineering and computing fields for most of career. She is also a researcher who has worked to establish research- and evidence-based practices in DEI. Her work has led to several honors, including the American Society of Engineering Education’s Collaborative Network for Engineering and Computing Diversity Rising Star in Diversity Award, the Council for Opportunity in Education’s National TRIO Achiever, and Virginia Tech’s Academy of Engineering Excellence Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. Dr. Artis has authored or co-authored over 40 referenced manuscripts in technical journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings, and has authored two books on college preparation and scholarships.
