Benefits and Challenges of Deploying ERP for a Consortium of Universities
Hosted by Ellen Herd, Sarit Schneider, and Reshma Patel-Jackson, Attain Partners; Ken Kundell, Salisbury University; and Michael Eismeier, University System of Maryland
Implementing a new ERP solution is a major, yet often necessary, undertaking for higher education institutions. Moreover, employing the right technology solutions impacts an institution’s efficiency and effectiveness in an ever-changing environment.
Implementing a new ERP in partnership with a consortium of institutions has the potential to greatly reduce both the implementation cost and ongoing maintenance burden by sharing one solution across multiple universities. The consortium model has been undertaken by five members of MEEC—Bowie State University, Coppin State University, Frostburg State University, Salisbury University, and University of Baltimore—who formed the Maryland Connect consortium to implement a shared instance of Workday financials and human capital management (HCM).
This presentation and discussion will highlight the Maryland Connect Consortium Workday implementation and will consider the opportunities and challenges of employing a consortium approach for ERP transformations. A consortium model provides participating institutions many benefits, of which economies of scale, financial sustainability, shared services, and best practices are but a few. Presenters will share an overview and insight into the Maryland Connect Consortium Workday implementation.
Topics to be covered include:
- An overview of the decision behind a consortium model approach to an ERP solution
- Best practices for an effective governance structure and unified team
- Strategies for developing and executing a deployment plan that considers the needs of individual institutions within a unified model.
This presentation will share a blend of knowledge with an interactive discussion to solicit questions, share experiences, and elicit perspectives from participants.

Creating and Implementing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategy
Hosted by Reshma Patel-Jackson and Melany Barrett, Attain Partners
The U.S. population continues to grow more educated and racially and ethnically diverse, though challenges in equity and inclusion persist in higher education. Amid an otherwise challenging enrollment and financial landscape, higher education institutions can realize DEI as a competitive advantage with an effective DEI strategy.
This session will highlight Attain Partners’ unique approach to DEI strategic planning by introducing the audience to our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Allyship (IDEA) Performance Maturity Framework™. The IDEA Performance Maturity Framework™ is a tool that evaluates DEI practices across 250+ criteria within five tracks—Training and Education, Regulatory/Compliance, Governance, Pipelines, and Brand—to ensure a comprehensive analysis that measures an institution’s DEI maturity.
Through the lens of the IDEA Framework™, our presenters will focus on the following learning objectives:
- Transform your institution’s DEI program, making it a hallmark of your brand
- Evaluate how effectively existing practices yield a sense of belonging within the institution’s environment
- Create an actionable roadmap for future DEI improvements and advancement
- Foster a more welcoming environment that promotes inclusion for all constituents
This session will share a blend of knowledge with an interactive discussion to solicit questions, share experiences, and elicit perspectives from participants.
