Concurrent session hosted by Vanessa Quiroz Hotz, Attain Partners; co-presented by Jessica Kim, The Lindquist Institute, and Kim Small, Washington State University
An introduction to internal controls and how to avoid being the topic of conversation because being on the front page or breaking news is not always a good thing, especially when it comes to federal funds. We will discuss grant-related issues and procedures to mitigate risk, protect assets, and put controls in place within your grant management processes. The session will define internal controls, discuss who is responsible, why we need them, and how to implement them. We will provide the framework and components associated with internal controls and provide examples of procedures and practices implemented to address the concerns associated with post-award financial management—payroll, travel, purchasing, etc.

Are you faced with an uphill battle to gather clear and complete data from your Clinical Trial Study Teams? Is your current Clinical Trial Management Process more manual than you would hope, creating delays in revenue and leaving room for human error? We will discuss the phased implementation process of a Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) in our expedition from start to finish. Use of the system is in full swing, and we will share the lessons we have learned to hopefully inspire other Institutions to take the plunge and help others in their preparation, summit, and descent.
