Job Description
The Snowflake Lead will serve as the primary technical expert responsible for guiding Snowflake platform architecture, schema design, and data modeling best practices to support the development of a federated data model. This role will lead the design and documentation of logical and physical data models within Snowflake, advise on naming standards and performance optimization, and collaborate across business and IT teams to ensure scalable, secure, and governed data solutions. This is a contract role, expected to run for a limited duration, and compensated on an hourly basis.
Job Responsibilities
- Snowflake Architecture & Enablement: Define and document data layer architecture (Raw, Curated, Analytics) within Snowflake, aligning with the broader federated data model strategy.
- Schema & Data Modeling: Design logical and physical schemas with consistent standards, including dimensional and normalized structures, to support cross-domain reporting and integration.
- Best Practice Guidance: Provide subject matter expertise on data partitioning, access controls, naming conventions, and optimization techniques within Snowflake.
- Metadata & Lineage Support: Collaborate with governance and data dictionary leads to support lineage mapping, metadata tagging, and integration with enterprise tools such as Informatica, Collibra, or Snowflake Catalog.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with business analysts, governance leads, and integration teams to ensure Snowflake models align with domain definitions, source system profiles, and reporting needs.
- Documentation & Blueprinting: Contribute to the Federated Data Model Blueprint using tools such as Lucidchart or Visio, providing a clear view of Snowflake structures, relationships, and usage patterns.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake architecture, performance tuning, and data modeling
- Deep understanding of cloud data warehousing concepts and ELT patterns
- Experience designing Raw, Curated, and Analytics data layers in Snowflake
- Proficiency in SQL, Snowflake DDL/DML, and role-based access control
- Familiarity with data integration pipelines (e.g., Boomi, Informatica, dbt, Fivetran) and metadata tools
- Ability to translate business and data governance requirements into scalable technical designs
Preferred Qualifications
- Snowflake Certification (SnowPro Core or Advanced Architect)
- Experience integrating Snowflake with reporting platforms (Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
- Understanding of MDM and data governance frameworks
- Experience in industries with strong compliance needs (e.g., healthcare, finance)
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
